Salted Watermelon Mineral Juice Recipe

If you want to hydrate better and you're cutting out alcohol or trying to cut down on the blood-sugar roller coaster of sugary drinks, let's chat delicious, hydrating mineral mocktails.

I started making these last week because the weather went from spring to middle-of-summer heat in a matter of days and I don't know about you but I crave yummy, flavourful drinks in the summer and I always feel more dehydrated in the heat.

Plus, plain water gets kinda boring and especially in the heat, water is not enough to truly hydrate your cells.

Raise your hand if you drink more water in the summer to stay hydrated in the heat?

If your hand is up (mentally), you may actually end up flushing minerals from your body.

Add to that the fact that many of us are low in minerals and that stress depletes your minerals faster, it's possible you're more dehydrated than ever on a cellular level.

That’s where mineral mocktails come in!

They’re tasty, alcohol-free, low-sugar homemade drinks that help you get in more fluids and are crafted specifically to provide the most needed electrolytes for true hydration!

If you want to know more about electrolytes for pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding, be sure to check out this everything-you-need-to-know summary.

I went with watermelon as the main ingredient in this Salted Watermelon Mineral Juice because my youngest daughter is obsessed with watermelon - it’s her favourite food, and we don’t typically buy it in the cold weather, so as soon as the nice weather rolls around, it’s watermelon season.

Not to mention, watermelon is one of the best sources of potassium, one of the top two needed electrolytes for hydration (the other is sodium).

When I say potassium, does your brain show you an image of a banana? If so, you’re not alone!

But guess what? Watermelon actually has more potassium than banana does!

Potassium is also the reason why so many mineral mocktails use a base of coconut water, as it’s also an awesome source of this mineral. You can use coconut water in place of the water called for here, but if you don’t love coconut flavour, know that you’re not missing out on anything in this recipe!

This Salted Watermelon Mineral Juice is super simple - all you need is a blender and a few common ingredients.

You need:

💧water (or use coconut water for more potassium)

🍉watermelon (for potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants)

🧂sea salt (for sodium)

🍋lemon juice (for vitamin C)

🌿optional: mint leaves (for flavour, and to support your digestion)

Once blended, I like to pour the juice into a large mason jar with lots of ice. It’s so good and it’s also such a pretty pink drink!

Here’s the recipe!
